Rahgeer

Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan are the lead pair of Rituparno Ghosh’s new movie Rahgeer. The movie is said to be based on the yesteryear movie Guide starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman.

The project has been delayed a bit as Rituparno Ghosh’s mother is ill.

Vidya Balan is said to be very excited about acting in the film of Rituparno Ghosh. She said in one of her interview that she almost fell of the chair when she was offered a role for this movie. But as her role is very complex and has multi-layers she cannot really connect to the role and is taking her time to understand the role. Its a role of a woman who goes through many changes in her life - its neither black nor white - as played Waheeda Rehman in the original film Guide.

Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have given music for Rahgeer.

Why our great directors/producers/actors can not make films of international standard, like Ben Hur, Roman Holiday, Jurassic Park, McKenna’s Gold, Django, King Kong, Poseidon Adventure, Titanic, Papillon, Enter the Dragon (????), to name a few? Why don’t we have directors like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Shyam Bengal? To get Oscar is not an easy task with these B-grade films. Pehli, Munnabhai, Black etc are not international standard movies. Much furore was made about Black wherein female protagonist cannot see, hear or tell. But sometimes she can hear as seen in the movie! Actually, they have nothing doing. The same old story has been rolling down the silver screen time and again from the birth of Indian cinema! They are not capable of making different.
